As the years go by, our accommodation requirements develop. There are a number of factors that contribute to this, and unfortunately, one size fits all homes that are able to transform to cater to our every desire don’t exist. Not yet, anyway.
One of the main reasons we need to change our homes is the varying stages of kids as they age. The Australian Bureau of Statistics forecasts that by 2031 our most common household type will be couples without children at home, which will certainly affect the property market.
People are often put off moving because of the hassle involved. But if you’re experiencing any of the following, it’s probably a good idea to find the right loan and a place that better suits your needs.
You’re stacking people four to a room
A two bedroom house may have been a great idea when you first got married. One bedroom for you and a spare room for your friends, family and junk that you just can’t part with. But now, your brood has inflated and you’re bunching babies in every corner of the room.
While it’s fine for younger children to be sharing rooms, as they get older they will probably be wanting a room of their own.
Your home has become vacant
Once, your abode was rich with the harmonious tunes of screeching babies, clamouring kids and partying teens. Now, however, you can ask your spouse a question only for it to bounce back at you as an echo.
With your kids gone, you could consider home loans for a smaller abode. Not only will you be living in cosier surroundings, but it should discourage your offspring from returning!
Your live in your car
When you first moved in, it may have been a short drive to work. However, it would be reasonable to assume that your commute to work has gotten a lot worse over the last decade, as according to Roy Morgan Research there are 2.6 million more motorists on the road today.
You could save a lot of time and money by talking to a mortgage lender and moving closer to your work or public transport facilities.
You’ve outgrown your neighbourhood
While the young and hip community that you initially joined may have been a great idea, a time will probably come when, just like a nappy, you outgrow it. Being woken up at 3am by kids partying to terrible electronic music just won’t hold the same novelty it once did.
An extra hint: If you consider your jubilant neighbours to be ‘kids’, then it’s definitely time to move!
